the jubilee inn, jubilee hill, pelynt, looe, cornwall, pl13 2jz, 01503 220312 copyright: the jubilee inn, pelynt 2016 swan inn chappel - welcome to - - pelynt - welcome to the jubilee inn pelynt > < 1/1 the jubilee started out as a farmhouse in the 16th century. the original building has since been extended whilst keeping all its character and now houses a central bar servery leading to a network of cosy rooms for dining with open log fires and original slate and wood floors. ​ when the farmhouse was converted into an inn it was named the axe, allegedly after an iron age axe found in the nearby “barrow field”. in 1887 the axe was renamed the jubilee to commemorate the golden jubilee of queen victoria. ​ the jubilee inn is a 16th century character village inn situated in the ancient village of pelynt. pelynt is mentioned in the domesday book (1086). the village is most famous as the birth place of bishop jonathan trelawney (1650-1721) who was imprisoned in the tower of london for his religious stand against king james ii. after 3 months he was tried and acquitted. upon the ascension of william of orange to the throne in 1689 he was rewarded by being appointed bishop of exeter. he is buried in the parish church at pelynt. ​ the parish church is dedicated to st nonna (the mother of st david, the patron saint of wales). bishop trelawneys' pastoral staff is preserved in the church. in 1824 robert stevens wrote in modern form “the song of the western men” or “trelawney” commemorating the events and it is now the “unofficial “cornish anthem sung at cornish rugby matches and other cornish gatherings. ​ ​ we hope to see you soon - david & jacqui and all of us at the jubilee inn “we have a separate dining area that seats around 45 guests. perfect for private functions, meetings, weddings, funerals and celebrations". about us the perfect base to explore cornwall the jubilee is the ideal base to stay whilst exploring south east cornwall. ​ the eden project can be easily reached from us. lostwithiel (the antiques capital of cornwall) is also a short drive away. ​ the national trust properties of lanhydrock and cotehele are also well worth a visit. ​ we have ten ensuite bedrooms plus a characterful double with a queen anne bed and its own private bathroom. there are seven double rooms, two twins and two family rooms. as we are an old inn all our room sizes vary please ask when booking if you require a larger room or have specific requirements for a bath or shower. all our room prices include breakfast, free onsite parking and wifi. we do allow dogs in some of our rooms for a small extra charge. ​ we have a large car park and would suggest that you park your car halfway up on the left and leave your luggage in the car. after we have checked you in to your accommodation it will be easier for you to bring your luggage in via our resident’s door. if you need a hand a member of the team will be more than happy to help. unfortunately, we do not have any lifts making our accommodation unsuitable for wheelchair users. ​ our sister pub the edgcumbe arms at cremyll also has four newly refurbished bedrooms and sits on the banks of the river tamar next to the mount edgcumbe country park. plymouth and its historic royal william yard are a 10 minute ferry ride away. the cremyll to plymouth passenger ferry stops right outside the pub. dsc_1098 4385aaf345ff489cb1ca0b8923c64374 5067a916f68642e0b208c1556e3ca870 dsc_1097 lanhydrock-gardens-9 biomes_0 9546637 cotehele0254a show more contact us > “why not make the jubilee inn your home from home?
